Re: 7-21-74 wall of sound pic |
I saw the Dead at Carnegie Hall NYC with their opening act, New Riders of the Purple Sage. I ate about three hits of Orange Sunshine and I literally SAW energy! That was the best Dead concert I ever attended. I think that was in 1970...I'm getting old!

Re: 7-21-74 wall of sound pic |
today's generation listens to music via iPods, consumes odd-sounding coffee drinks, watches reality shows, wears stain-resistant, wrinkle-free clothing, how boring; that picture tiger, evokes a time when Rock&Roll and the world still had balls; thanks

Re: 7-21-74 wall of sound pic |
as far as I'm concerned, music hasn't had balls since Nirvana. Eventhough Nirvana was the 3rd or even 4th coming of what "punk" was/is, they still changed the music industry by making "alternative" music mainstream. Regardless of how you might feel about this change, that still took balls.
I have many friends who aren't into the GD at all. They tend to make the common jokes about "4hr Garcia solos", and "that hippie crap", (in the stereotypical stoner voice) "the DEAD, man! They're soooo coool!"". But I take great pride in mentioning how the GD changed the industry. Their--and Bear's--contributions to concert sound, light shows, the taping of shows, etc.
Having said that, I won't say that there hasn't been some great, GREAT music that's come out in the past 15 years. There are so many other bands out there aren't getting any play by record co's & radio, and with the internet, it's really overwhelming to even try to find it.

Re: 7-21-74 wall of sound pic |
hey, i don't disagree in large part with your post at all, and i am going to assume you understood that i was speaking generally, because of course there is some fantastic music being produced and played today, but if you are under any misconception that the world (putting music aside) today has even a remote connection with sanity, then, my friend, we will have to disagree
and on a side note, Nirvana wouldn't even have existed without Dinosaur Jr., their superiors in every way but popularity ... and who cares about that?
